Keyboarding Skills

Scope and Sequence

Kindergarten:

Students will master the parts of a computer, proper terminology, mouse skills,  recognize numbers and letters on the keyboard.  They will learn to start and quit an application. Use are variety of programs such as Microsoft Word®, Paint, Kidspiration and HyperStudio. Internet safety will be introduced.

1st Grade :

Students will review the parts of a computer and use proper terminology, mouse skills, recognize numbers and letters on keyboard, home row keys. Students will use Microsoft Word®, Kidspiration, Paint and HyperStudio. They will learn to login and off using their user name and password. Save a document in their Home drive, open it and and print the document. Learn Internet safety tips.

2nd Grade :

1st grade skills plus file management, create folders on Home drive, create a document in Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint®, Kidspiration and HyperStudio. Students will save to folder to their Home drive, open a document from P drive, print, open a bookmarked Internet site, begin keyboarding program and learn Internet safety.

3rd and 4th Grades:

Keyboarding is major component of lab time. Type to Learn 4is the program at this level. They will develop proper keyboarding techniques and practice those skills.Additional instruction is given on Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint®, Paint, HyperStudio and InspireData and Kidspiration®. Internet safety is covered in a more comprehensive manner.

5th Grade:

Keyboarding continues to be a major component of lab time. Type to Learn 4 and various Internet keyboarding sites are used. File management, advanced instruction in Microsoft Word®, PowerPoint®, InspireData, Publisher®, Inspiration®, HyperStudio multimedia presentations and Internet safety are additional components. With some guidance and support, use technology, including the Internet, to research, produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others through Google Classroom

6th Grade :

Assessed in two areas:
            ** Keyboarding: pre and post test measuring accuracy and speed
            ** Using the Microsoft® Office products
Students will use Inspiration® or Kidspiration® Paint, Microsoft Word® , InspireData, Publisher®, HyperStudio, PowerPoint® to give a presentation and Movie Maker to create a project. Internet safety guidelines are presented throughout the year.
Use technology, including the Internet, to research, produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others through Google Classroom

Kindergarten

                 delete, shift)

Grade 1

    _____ Type First Name

    _____ Locate the numbers on the keyboard

    _____ Demonstrate the difference between Shift and
                 Cap Lock keys

    _____ Demonstrate typing proficiency with the home keys

    _____ Create uppercase letters using the Shift Key

Grade 2

    _____ Type complete sentences

    _____ Demonstrate correct home key positions

    _____ Use word wrap

    _____ Demonstrate progress of plus 5 WPM

Grade 3
